FAQ

Q. What is Minwax® High-Build Polyurethane?

High-Build Polyurethane is a clear, oil-based, durable protective finish that is specially formulated to provide long-lasting beauty and protection with just two coats.

Q. Where can I use High-Build Polyurethane?

High-Build Polyurethane is ideal for use on all interior wood surfaces including furniture, cabinets, doors and floors. It can be applied over oil-based stains like Minwax® Wood Finish or Minwax® Gel Stain . It can also be applied over Minwax® Water-Based Wood Stain wood tones, provided the stain has dried completely.

Q. How many coats do I need apply?

Only two coats are required for maximum durability. Additional coats are not recommended.

Q. Can I mix High-Build Polyurethane with Fast-Drying Polyurethane?

Yes. The two products are compatible. Follow the directions for High-Build Polyurethane for application, dry times and number of coats. As with all clear finishes, if you plan on mixing, be sure to mix everything before you start to ensure an even appearance across the surface of the wood.

Q. Can I apply Fast-Drying Polyurethane over High-Build Polyurethane or vice versa?

The two products can be applied over each other as long as the first has fully cured. Follow the directions for the product you are using. Do not exceed two coats in total. Do not finish part of a surface with one topcoat and part with the other as this could result in uneven appearance across the surface of the wood.

Q. What is the V.O.C. level of High-Build Polyurethane?

High-Build Polyurethane has a maximum V.O.C. of 350 g/L.

Exposure to lead dust or fumes may cause brain damage or other adverse health effects, especially in children or pregnant women. Controlling exposure to lead or other hazardous substances requires the use of proper protective equipment such as a properly fitted respirator (NIOSH approved) and proper containment and cleanup. For more information, call the National Lead Information Center at 1-800-424-LEAD (in US) or contact your local health authority.
