Minwax® Express Clear

Minwax® Express Clear provides protection and a beautiful sheen in just one hour, and it comes in a handy 6 oz. tube. It can be used as a companion product to Minwax® Express Color, or over other Minwax® stains, or over bare wood. The product is very simple to apply: wipe it onto the wood with a clean cloth, let it dry for an hour, and that's it—you’re done!

Minwax® Express Clear provides protection and a beautiful sheen to your wood in one hour. Wipe it on with a cloth, let it dry, and you are done. Minwax® Express Clear is low odor and cleans up with soap and water.

Q. How do I apply Minwax® Express Clear?

Minwax® Express Clear is very easy to use. Point the opening of the tube toward the wood and squeeze gently. Wipe the product onto the wood using a clean, lint-free cloth, moving in the direction of the wood grain. Let it dry for an hour and then apply a second coat. And that's it—you are done!

Q. Can I apply a third coat of Minwax® Express Clear if I want to?

Certainly, you can! Simply wait an hour after applying the second coat, and then apply a third.

Q. Does Minwax® Express Clear require sanding between coats?

Minwax® Express Clear does not need to be sanded between coats.

Q. How many sheens is Minwax® Express Clear offered in?

Minwax® Express Clear is available in two sheens: high gloss and low gloss.

Q. Can I apply Minwax® Express Clear over Minwax® Express Color? How about over another Minwax® stain or bare wood?

Minwax® Express Clear works wonderfully over Minwax® Express Color, adding protection and sheen. It also works well over all Minwax® stains. And it works over bare wood!

Q. Minwax® Express Color has a finish in it. Why do I need Minwax® Express Clear?

Minwax® Express Color does have a clear finish in it already, so you aren't required to use Minwax® Express Clear on top of Minwax® Express Color. However, some people like to add extra protection, and others like to add more sheen to the Minwax® Express Color. Minwax® Express Clear is perfect for those uses!

Q. Is Minwax® Express Clear available in VOC-restricted areas?

Yes. Minwax® Express Clear can be sold all across the US, including in VOC-restricted areas.

Directions

SURFACE PREPARATION:

  • If applying to bare wood, sand the wood smooth.
  • If applying on top of Express Color or stain, do not sand at all.
  • Remove all sanding dust.

APPLICATION:

  • Shake the tube.
  • Squeeze the tube gently, pointing it toward the wood.
  • Minwax® Express Clear appears milky but dries clear.
  • Apply to the wood with a clean, soft cloth, moving in the direction of the wood grain.
  • Wait one hour, and then apply a second coat.
  • A third coat can be applied, if desired.
  • Wait overnight before subjecting the wood to normal use.
  • There is no need to sand between coats, although if you want added smoothness, you can sand lightly before applying the final coat.

CLEANUP:

  • Soap and warm water
