Wood Project Inspiration

When the kids get a basement room of their own, it should be set up for storage, lots of it

Many a parent will testify that kids' stuff has a way of taking over almost every room. And to keep clutter from becoming outright chaos, there needs to be ample storage, which you can easily get by bringing home some unfinished furniture.

For this project, oak modules and drawer units were used to fill the basement stair wall. The staining plan called for a two-tone look which used Minwax® Water Based Wood Stain Colonial Pine and Island Water, which was applied after a coat of Minwax® Water Based Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner. Then two coats of Minwax® Polycrylic® Protective Finish Semi-Gloss were applied, and after a weekend of wood finishing, the kids’ stuff got its own place and the folks got to keep their sanity, a happy ending if there ever was one.
