DIY Tip: Creating Faux Hardwood Floor Inlays

Uploaded

Wood finishing expert Bruce Johnson shows you some great tips for hardwood floor stenciling using Minwax® products. Spruce up your hardwood floors by adding contrasting colors. This may be difficult if you already have your floors laid down, but this look can be easily imitated by using a gel stain and some simple techniques. First, make sure your floor has a coat of finish. If you're dealing with a new floor, apply a coat of Minwax® Super Fast-Drying Polyurethane for Floors. If your floors already have a coat, scuff it lightly with fine sandpaper. The light scratches will help with the new coat of stain. Then, line out your pattern with some blue painter's tape. After you've laid down your tape, apply a coat of Minwax® Gel Stain using a sea sponge. Don't use a brush as it may force some of the stain to go under the tape. Rather, dab it on with the sponge and don't apply too much stain at once.

Let your finish dry and remove the tape. Protect your work by applying Minwax® Super Fast-Drying Polyurethane for Floors.
