Old dresser stained with two coats of Minwax® Wood Finish Jacobean stain

A Discarded Dresser Becomes a Bathroom Beauty

The vanity is always the focal point of a bath, so why settle for something store-bought, boring and expensive? Think creatively instead, to save money and add a unique personality to your home. Here a cast-off dresser was rescued from a roadside to serve as the vanity in an elegant bath.

To transform the old dresser into a new vanity, the old finish was removed with Minwax® Antique Furniture Refinisher, then sanded. The two lower drawers were removed and replaced with shelves where the drawer slides had been. A hole was cut in the top for the self-rimming sink, and the top drawer was glued in place. Prepping the wood for staining came next. To ensure a beautiful even finish, with no streaking or blotching, the old dresser was given a coat of Minwax® Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner. The dresser was then stained with two coats of Minwax® Wood Finish Jacobean to achieve the warm wood tone that complements the traditional damask wallpaper. Finally, Helmsman® Spar Urethane in a satin sheen was brushed on to protect the vanity in its new home.
