Add a Pop of Color Without Hiding the Wood Grain with Minwax® Water Based Wood Stain

Wood finishing expert Bruce Johnson is here to help you complete your next wood finishing project. In this edition of Just Ask Bruce, he demonstrates how to add vibrant color to your unfinished wood without covering up its natural beauty.

Bruce recommends using Minwax® Water Based Wood Stain. This stain is available in 40 colors and 4 designer style color palettes. Choose from bright & bold colors to a classic wood tone, or a more subtle shade from the cottage or sea & sky palettes.

First, sand the wood surface and use a rag to remove any dust. Using a synthetic bristle brush, apply Minwax® Water Based Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner, making sure to follow the directions on the label. Remove any excess, then after it dries sand the surface lightly.

Thoroughly stir the stain and apply using a lint-free rag or synthetic bristle brush, in the direction of the grain. Allow the stain to penetrate the surface for three minutes and remove any excess stain with a clean rag. Additional coats can be applied, if a darker color is desired. Once the final coat of stain is fully dried, apply Minwax® Polycrylic™ Protective Finish.
